I checked the Taper web site and see that it mentions problems with versions 5.4.38 and 5.4.44 of the c libraries. I personally don't know how to tell the version of c loaded as the filename is simply libc.so.5. [Maybe someone can help with explaining how to determine this] It mentions to try version 6.0 which is found in glibc-2*.rpm available from
www.rpmfind.net. I'm currently testing e-smith 4.1B2 which includes the latest libraries and Taper works fine however previously I had a plain e-smith 4.0 install and Taper worked ok there to.
Hope this helps,
