« on: December 27, 2000, 11:07:02 PM »
I have a US Robotic V.everything ISDN that need an init. string to make both channel work (full 128K).  e-smith does not have a place for the Init string for the modem.  Any way to make it work

You have  an init string for dialup connections in the chat script in the custom-templates directory if you have rel 4.0.1
let me check the exact name of the file.
and I'll post another messg.

In the 4.0.1 version, the file is at:
etc/e-smith/templates/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0/25init, but you should read about the customization procedure in order to modificate things in the right way.

Jose:
This link is in the e-smith main page and explains how to make modifications to the factory deffauls settings without loosing them in any reconfiguration process.

PS: It sounds rare (by your name and mine procedence) that we are posting each other in english but it seems to be better to let someone help you and me of course!

You are not correct - e-smith does have a place in its configuration database for an Init string - there is just no support for it in the user interface.

To set an Init string, lot in as root, and do:

/sbin/e-smith/config ModemInit set 'D1&G2.....'
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event console-save

However, you might find that an easier and effective way to set the Init string is to change the reset condition of your modem. Check your modem manual - the command is probably "AT&W0".
