Millicom PPPoE startup and config
« on: February 16, 2001, 02:29:02 AM »
Hi!
I'm about to subscribe to a Millicom pppoe ISP, since I have only used my e-smith box with dial up connection I dont know how should I put it to work.
I have some instructions about setting up a linux system with Millicom PPPoE connection but, I know e-smith's config could be a little harder, so before screwing this beautifully working server, It would be very kind from anyone in the forum to give me a clue on this subject or at least show me a light in the right direction.
I have been searching in the forum's database for subjects related but, most of them are about pppoe protocol with asdl connections, as a newbie on linux, pppoe or all this things, I dont't  even know if those references are applicable to my problem.
The things I'm sure are:
There is an antenna (node of ISP) on a high building in my town and if I subscribe to this service they  will give me a UTP wire from the antenna and trans box in my roof, to my e-smith box and I should do the rest cause they only know how to connect an standard linux distribution. so
I would really appreciate any help!!!!
Thanks  a lot in advance.
I have to apologize again cause of my poor english.

As long as it is a standard implementation of PPPoE - the E-Smith version should do the job: whether it is DSL or anything else. Since you get UTP, I guess you'll have a sdandard network card in your E-Smith box, therefore to the computer this should be a network connection where PPPoE goes on top. Just try.
