Opening Ports

I used to run e-smith 4.0.1 as a dial-up server but recently upgraded to
version 4.1. I used to be able to connect to an external centralized
information server via port 5005 and an external pop3 server and it
worked fine but on the new version it does not allow it anymore. I
assume it is for security reasons, but it is essential for me that I can
allow a conection to port 5005 from the internal network to a external
server. I also don't want to modify the ipchain rules because I scared
I break IP Masquerading and therefore the server's security. I would be
grateful if somebody can give me some hep on this subject.

No, it does allow it. There must be some other reason that it does not work for you.

Two possibilities are:

- You do not have the correct default gateway address in your clients - does your new server have a different IP address?

- You are operating the server in serveronly mode, not server-gateway. Version 4.1 by default does not configure IP masquerade when configured to server only mode.

When I upgraded to 4.1 I did two things simultaneously.
I Upgraded and seperated the database and internet and mail severs.
So I have two servers. The Internet server's IP address stayed the
same but the database server I made 192.168.1.2. And both internet access
and e-mail works on the internet server. Any other ideas?
