How can manage security...
« on: April 16, 2001, 08:45:45 PM »
Good days.

This can seem ridiculous but I was arrested here.

Question 1: - I need to create a folder common to all of the users.

Question 2: - What do need that folder has general permissions the all of the objects that there are, in other words, do I have a program that can create sub-folders inside of the main, how such he has to have rights on the folder for it can create them, right?.

Greetings.

Jorge:
You Can create an Ibay with a name you can choose, and assign permissions as needed with the e-smith manager,
then you can keep the general structure of e-smith and use the "files" sub folder to add files and dirs inside at will with the only preacaution of upload files and dirs with an ftp client to avoid a permission related problem already discussed in this forums before,(search with "ibay permission" string) also you can read the manual where the ibay cration and permission process is well described, (manual is in english and there is also an spanish) I dont knof about a .pt version ;)

I had a similar problem, I wanted a clean directory for all users to access via samba or ftp.  What I did mainly because the system was not connected to the public network I used the chmod 777 command on the new directory I created and deleted the standard E-Smith directories.  This worked very well for that application, you can play with the chmod *** numbers to get the result for internal and external security just look up chmod commands in yahoo.
