Hi, Does anybody use Echo-Online ( www.eol.ca) with dialup?

I'm using e-smith as gateway and dialup server almost a year.
Some weeks already I'm having problems with name resolving when using e-smith and dialup to eol.ca.
If working with IP-addresses everything is fine.
With names it either works very slow or not at all.

When dialing out to the same provider with Windows everything is fast and OK.

The provider doesn't admit to have changed anything at their site.
I didn't change anything as well, but reinstalled it to be shure.
I'm using same configuration at home with diff. ISprovider and is fine.

Any idea?

ask your provider to tell you the ip addres of the dns servers
(primary and secondary) and use it in your e-smith config,

....( and try to keep your mouse away from the post button of this page ;)  )

Sorry to contradict you Alejandra, but my advice is to remove any primary and secondary DNS servers from the e-smith config - the e-smith server has a perfectly good caching name server, and quite a few people have trouble if they do specify the ISP's name servers. I suspect that is Filip's problem.

Is there any way to write" :{  " but in red color in this forum!

As always Charlie is wright! (I should have asked before if Filip had external dns configuration enabled)

Shamed Alejandro!

And in response, a shamed Charlie - I mistyped Alejandra, instead of Alejandro. Very sorry about that!

Thanks for your help, it's always appreciated.

It worked 1 year without this .
Question is what did change now?

The configuration is standard, whatever is configured by default.
DNS servers are not specified.
The thing is I'm using this server on 2 different locations and it works perfect without any add. configuration.
And now since few weeks it doesn't work any more or better said it works from time to time, I mean sometimes name resolving is very fast sometimes not working at all. And configuration is still the same.

This is why I think the ISP ( Echo-Online www.eol.ca ) did change something and I don't know how to find out what is it. They ignore my questions.

When connecting with a Windows machine everything is fine :-(

I appreciate any help !!

Greetings,

Filip

I forgot to tell you that I see in /var/log/messages a lot of:
named[599]: Response from unexpected sourse ([xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx].53)
