virtual web ftp access

I had posted a message earlier regarding creating a user account that has access to the web site that they will be managing.  one of the developers posted an answer which was.

To ftp directly into the ibay lets say "bonded" to be able to manage the web site, use the ibay name for the username and the ibay password for the ftp user password.

this doesnt work.  I have tried the ibay name, the group name since the owner of the files under this ibay is "bonded". it gives me a 501 Not permitted to connect to ftp.bondedwindshield.com.

I have looked at the ./etc/proftpd.conf and cant figure out what I need to change.  Im not sure if this is something that should be sent to the bug reports or not.  any help is very appreciated.

this may sound like a silly suggestion, but is the dns name ftp.bondedwindshield.com set up correctly at your dns provider, and is e-smith set up correctly to deal with it?

also, try logging in using the server name you actually gave the machine (in the case that it wasn't 'ftp')
