Having the company directory available is crucial to my needs, and I have been trying to get this function working for 2 days now. It is fine in webmail, but that isn't actually LDAP.

EVERYTHING else works fine. I have tried Outlook Express, Eudora Light and Netscape 4.76. Netscape does not even allow you to set the Directory server to anything but the four default services. What worries me is that I have never yet seen the configuration of any client ask for the information specified in the manual (the "DC=" stuff.)

Telnetting in on port 389 connects, but typing at it disconnects it.

Can anyone tell me if they have this working? I would just like to know that it is possible... thanks!

Can you clarify? Are you trying to select email addresses from the LDAP datastore with your email packages? If so, I have it working with Outlook at a client site, and, as far as I am aware, the LDAP section in the manual works well. So what sort of problem are you having?

I am posting this here in reply to a direct message I received...

I finally found it. Thanks to an old message in this forum, I found where
the LDAP setting was for Netscape. (I don't see why they don't just put it
in the manual.) On Outlook Express, the problem was similar; there is a
field under "advanced" called "search base" and THAT is where you put the
LDAP parameters ("dc=") - again, I don't understand why e-smith didn't just
put this in the manual, but I am OK now. Thanks.

I found the answers myself on the ldap home page :-)

I am a bit confused.  We have a section in the manual at:

  http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/4.1/configdirectory.html

on how to configure the directory in Netscape.  (The next
version of the manual (for 5.0) will have some information
for Outlook Express.)

Is there additional information you need that was missing?

Puzzled,

Hello,
I have a bit problem with ldap, i would like that the default e-mail adress shown in the ldap database ( with OE or netscape) is a pseudonyme.
My problem: i 've created some account, but i would like that my user use e-mail adress like first.last@domainname. Then in default e-smith shown accountname@domainname. Do you know where is the file that i must modify to shown pseudonyma like default adress?
