can somebody tell me how to get to the command line on this box. i want to install some rpms but i have no idea how to do it

In the console screen press alt+f2  or  alt+f3 and you will be asked to login as a new user
type root and you willbe asked for a password
type thw admin password and you'll get the comand prompt in the root directory
try installing MC (midnight commander) it will help you a lot with the visualization of your files and dirs
