Playing games over e-smith 4.1.2
« on: July 12, 2001, 04:22:27 PM »
Some other problem I have is:

I play (sometimes) Diablo and other games, likely on battlenet, it works.
But lately I tried to play Cossacks ( from CVS) and i cant connect to the server!
I suppose the server must be reconfigurated to do it.
does somebody knows what to do ?

Honestly I dont think you have to do anything on your e-smith server.
It's a gateway so I assume it doesnt change anything if you play to Diablo or Cossacks...

So I thought at first...

But I can't play other games!!!
So I think it must be the configuration of e-smith.
but, where to look for?
I think there is a port which must be set for masquerading.
of is there a ip_masq_ module available???

THe games whitch can't be played are AOE1,2, Cossacks.

Sebastian,
if you are trying to serve games from a machine on your network to players on the internet, yes you need to configure the server to make the appropriate ports visible to the outside world.

But if you are just connecting to game servers there is nothing you need to do - masquerading is exactly like connecting directly from the e-smith server to a games server - all packets you send and receive are passed to and from your machine by e-smith transparently and with no interference.

If you can't connect there are other reasons to do with your machine configuration or the game servers in question.  Prove it to yourself by connecting via modem dialup directly from your pc.
