MySQL and Backup
« on: July 22, 2001, 11:04:00 PM »
Hi,

I started using MySQL on e-smith for an online database in conjunction with PHP.  All of this is new to me so I apologize for my ignorance.  My question relates to the backup feature on the web manager for e-smith.

When I do a backup to desktop, will my database be saved with the other databases e-smith uses for webmail?  When I do a "show databases;" command in MySQL it shows all the other database availible to me.  Since I didn't have to specify a path to save my new database, I assume that MySQL saves all the data from all its databases in one place.  So I'm hoping a backup to desktop will save this new data as well.

Any insight?

Thanks,

Michael

Michael,
As part of the backup process E-smith compresses the MySQL databases into a tar.gz file and backs them all up, so provided you use both the E-smith backup and restore functions your databases will be safe. You don't need to know any path locations etc it does it all for you.
