setting up Dns2go gateway

setting up Dns2go gateway
« on: September 06, 2001, 02:38:51 AM »
I am trying to use my E-smith Server as a Gateway for my Dns2go account on my Win2K Server.  I have several services that I need to run from the Windows 2000 Server on my internal network.

I have been in correspondance with the Deerfield technical support and they say that it only requires that you have NAT running on the server/router (E-Smith).
When I have tried to run the Dns2go setup program it is unable to connect.

I also found this on the DNS2GO website:
>Create a TCP Mapping Service
>
>Accept connection on port number 1227
>
>Enable the TCP mapping to go discovery.dns2go.com
>
>On port: 1227

Is it possible that my E-Smith server is blocking that inbound port by default?
Has anyone gotten Dns2go to work on a machine behind their E-smith server?

I can get around in Linux, but am fairly new to Linux networking, so I may need more in depth explaining.
I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,
Scott Kendall

Okay, I won't beat the "you should run dns2go on e-smith" horse ;-)

Yes, everything inbound is blocked except for the specific ports needed for the services you've enabled (such as ssh, http, etc.)

I'm guessing not, but a few of us are running it on the e-smith server.

As I suggested earlier, search the forums. The following thread gives some pointers for opening up the system for PCAnywhere, but the technique would be similar for any other program.

Hopefully this will put you on the right track. If not, you're in the right forum ;-)
