ImageMagick installation
« on: September 06, 2001, 09:03:25 AM »
I would like to install ImageMagick on my e-smith server to support generation of thumb nail images etc and I would like to have a go at installing eZpublish that requires it.

The tricky bit is that ImageMagick seems to require x components that are not installed on the server but I understand that there is a 'command line version' available.

Has anyone successfully installed ImageMagick on e-smith? is there a 'command line version' available? How should it be installed (RPM or single binary or compile)?

Thx for any assistance.

I hate to answer question without giving real answers, but a friend of mine has  successfully installed ImageMagick under esmith, and is supposed to help me install ezpublish on my esmith box this weekend. I will let you know what I find out.

using myegallery on phpnuke/postnuke i have automatic thumbnails working.

i had to follow dan brown's howto to upgrade php and install the gd library (took 10 minutes).

works great.

does ezpublish also generate thumbnails using php gd library?
just a thought.

Installing Imagemagick
(I don't know that all steps are necessary, but I do know this is what I did while installing ezpublish, and since ezpublish requires Imagemagick, i just included the first 8 steps as an ImageMagick install guide)

rpms (in order)
    libxml2-2.2.9-1.i386.rpm
    libxml2-devel-2.2.9-1.i386.rpm
XFree86-libs-4.0.3-5.i386.rpm
    qt-2.2.3-1.i386.rpm
    qt-devel-2.2.3-1.i386.rpm
libtiff-3.5.5-7.i386.rpm
libungif-4.1.0-7.i386.rpm
Imagemagick-5.2.7-2.i386.rpm

for those of you who need Imagemagick but not for ezpublish, I believe you can ignore the indented rpms

all rpms where obtained at http://rpmfind.net
