Hi,

I am new user of E-Smith and last time we did have fax server which is RelayFax. We install the RelayFax in WINNT environment.

now we have use E-Smith as our mail server and gateway. we thinking of setup HylaFax in E-Smith.

i have read the article HowTo at
http://e-smith.org/docs/howto/contrib/HylaFAX-HowTo.html

but in the article, it didnt show me how to install the modem, i also visit the website :
http://www.hylafax.org/howto/index.html

http://www.hylafax.org/setup.html

I still cant really understand how to do it

i have some questions :

1) Is there anyone installed HylaFax in E-smith ? if yes, please reply me .

2)May i know is the HylaFax is tested successuflly working with E-Smith because i read the articels from http://www.hylafax.org/howto/index.html, it said that :

i didnt see that it is tested working for E-Smith, i need to confirm that it is working for E-Smith.

3)In the website, it stated below:

HylaFAX Prerequisets

libtiff - get it at http://www.libtiff.org
LZW compression is not required. BSD needs version 3.5.6 to compile.
Ghostscript - get it at http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/
SGI IRIX users may use Impressario or DPS.
zlib - usually available with libtiff or Ghostscript
awk, gawk, mawk, or nawk - get mawk at ftp://ftp.whidbey.net/pub/brennan/
Many distributions come with one of these already.
sendmail or compatible SMTP - get it at http://www.sendmail.org/
Many distributions come with one.

May I know what is this all about ?

we are using QMail instead of sendmail, is it suitable also ?

Well it lists redhat linux, which e-smith is based on.
And I have heard a few people talking about setting it up with e-smith in this forum. There is no reason it woud not work, if you read through the how to.. there are some added components you will have to install, which are all available via RPM's.
As far as modem setup.. What kind of modem is it?  Winmodem? Standard modem..
It' sbeen a long time since I had to setup a modem in linux.. last time was standard seriall modem on com2..and just pointed software to /dev/ttys1

Basicaly any package designed for redhat linux should be able to run properly on e-smith.. you might have to install a few extra bits of software that are not included with e-smith worst case scenario..

Hi,

In my experience the easiest modem to set up
in e-smith or any linux version is an external
modem thats hangs off a real serial port.

Period.

It seems almost all PCI modems are of the 'winmodem'
type these days, which are troublesome to setup under Linux.
Not impossible however.
Find out what kind of chip the modem has by doing
cat /proc/pci
The device should be listed.  If it is a Lucent you are in luck.
There is a module for the lucent winmodem (or linmodem as it is
know  under linx if you get it working )
Do a search for 'linmodem' in Google and you will dig up this
module driver.  It was released by Lucent last year.

Once you have it installed you should be able to communicate
with the modem using minicom.  As root do minicom -s and
set the port to ttyS14, then run minicom.  You should be able to
do an AT and get OK back, which will mean the modem is up and
running.

Hope this helps

Well it confirms that your modem uses the Lucent chip.
Do a lookup on google.com for linmodem
this should get you started.
Basically you need to locate the module/driver, install it
and then confirm that you can communicate with your modem, as
per my previous mail.  You need to do a bit of work here,
but all the information you need to get the modem working
is on the net and you will find it with google.
