HylaFax with USR 33.6 Modem
« on: September 13, 2001, 01:36:13 AM »
I have installed Hylafax using a USR 33.6 Modem. I am using Cypheus as my client front end.

Hylafax setup recognizes the modem OK. the problem is that when I start Cyhpeus to send a fax, it shows me that "server is initializing..." and never sends a fax.

It sometimes says that Hylafax is not responding. I have set up Hylafax (and Cypheus) on other boxes before, but this is the first time I have used such a modem.

Are there any issues with this modem? Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks.

I believe there are issues with USR modems.  I have messed with them in the past and, they actually worked beeter than you might think.

If I remember correctly, they report that they are a Class 2 modem when they actually are not.  I believe a search in HylaFax support circles will help with this.  I think you just need to configure them as Class 1 to get them to work.

That being said... I strongly recommend a Class 2 or 2.0 modem.
