dual processor athlon freeze
« on: September 18, 2001, 09:52:57 AM »
I have set e-smith up on a dual 1.2 athlon box.  It will not boot into the dual mode.  However it will work in the up (uni-processor) mode.  The system just hangs  after
PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device 39, VID=1022, DID=7411
PCI_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
        ide0:BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, Bios settings hda:DMA, hdb:pio
ide0:BM-DMA at 0xf008-0xf00f, Bios settings hda:pio, hdd: DMA

when booting under up the next thing listed is related to my hard-drives
HDA icl xxxxxxx atapi drive

I have a Tyan tyger,  it is a lower model than the thunder but only cost $255 rather than $520 for the thunder with scsi.  It has nothing integrated and does not have ide raid that I can find even though it says it does on the box.  The box has 2 1.2 athlon and 512 megs of DDR ram.
I am setting this up for a non-profit that has 5 users,  I could not convince them that they did not need dual processors (also they got a grant that could only be used for computer equipment so they figured they might as well spend it)

Dual AMD Processor is brand new so I think you'll have to wait for some drivers release.
Maybe the current kernel tries to initialise something and fall on the seconde cpu.. (like memory adresses or whatever)..

Can't help you more I didnt try dual amd processor yet....

But I wont use it as server if I buy a dual proc mobo :) It will be my station ahahah

Have you confirmed hardware compatibility with kernel 2.2.16-22?

SME Server V5 uses the 2.2.19-7.0.8 kernel and may support this
board.

It still freezes with v5.  I will look into upgrading the kernal to a newer one
