Topic: Direct/Squid URL error result differ

Hi everyone,

Using 4.0.1, does anyone how to change the squid proxy to provide or pass through error reports that provide meaningful info?  

When Netscape proxy preferences are manual (192.168.1.1:3128) and I access a URL that does not exist, say http://http://nonexistent.com/ OR http://foo.bar, I get broken gifs on the result page and no notification that the URL cannot be retrieved.

  However, when I connect direct to the same URL I get a similar result but the gifs aren't broken (the previous URL remains intact) and I get a report that the URL can't be found.

 Is there a way to change this behavior and provide better feedback?  Same behavior on Mac/PC and Netscape/IE.

Any pointers on how to get consistent results (by resetting cache in e-smith and my browser?) would also be helpful.  I get a bit confused trying to get consistent results.
