Phonebook application
« on: October 13, 2001, 10:38:48 AM »
Hi,

I would like to use a multi-user phonebook system in a ESSG v4.1.2 and permit everyone to read access and only administrator has authority to amend records. I have tested Phonebook.php3 (which is no longer maintain by author) by following the installation steps but failed to run due to the unknown php3 settings in php4 environment (phplib issue). Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Pkidd,

What I would like is to setup a separate telephone directory system for users to enquire. I think LDAP is not useful in this case. Anymore suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Keeping the directory in LDAP makes it easy to use the clients built into Outlook,  Netscape, etc. for phone numbers as well as email addresses. You just need a web gateway to make it a standalone phonebook. The web/ldap gateway at: http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~fri/web500gw/
can generate tables showing any elements of the directory you want either for a search or the whole list.  For examples, follow the 'URL Format' link on the left side of the home page, then look at some of the views available near the bottom of that page, especially the one that mentions 'telephone book' in the description:
