SME 5 & e-smith-service-control RPM
« on: October 14, 2001, 07:49:48 AM »
Just installed SME 5_02 and it's great...  However I am trying to run the RPM e-smith-service-control like I did in the 4.1 e-smith server so I can gain control over my services.  When I update the page it keeps timing out and does not update the services.

Has anyone else had any luck with this RPM ?  Or does it even work on the SME 5 version ?

TIA !

Gman,

I ran into the same trouble after I installed the service control RPM on my SME5 server.  I don't know if it is supposed to work on V5, but it sure doesn't on my server.  (And it worked great on my 4.1.2 server.)

Any others with input on this issue?

Regards,
Patrick

This is one of the contributed modules that does *not* work on SMEv5... to disable services, you'll have to type the following line on your nearest available console... (preferably connected to your SMEv5 server, of course!)

/sbin/e-smith/config setprop status disabled

Well the service manager RPM half works.

Install the RPM
Identify from the services panel which services you want to disable.
The service name is in the 'Individual Components' column.
Use Rob's method to disable the services.
Then use the Service Panel to check they are disabled.

Works a treat.Rob Hillis wrote:
