Simplest answer - get an external modem.

A lot of new PCI modem are soft-modems (or winmodems). Getting one to work in e-smith can be very difficult (some even impossible) as they are driven by Software (usually windows based). There were some ports of the software by some parties but it is still time consuming to do so.

Again, I suggest you get an external modem.

I repeat - I suggest you use an external modem.

Without knowing what sort of PCI modem you actually have, I really cannot tell you if it will be easy to install or not. However, if your modem is in fact a Softmodem or Winmodem and you are really keen to try and make it work in ESSG, then check out the following web site :-
