E-Smith 4.12 Printing
« on: October 19, 2001, 04:58:44 AM »
I've been able to everything on my E-Smith except get the damn thing to print.  My Windows 2000 clients see the share and I install the driver locally but still no printing.  My Redhat 7.1 box can also see the samba share but can't print to it.

I've done all the obvious things such as testing the cable on a new printer and computer, tried a different printer, rebuilt a new computer in case the LPT port was defective and played with BIOS settings.

If anyone has had this problem or can point me to some better documentation i.e. not the E-SMITH manual it would greatly be appreciated.

If you are like me and have NOT upgraded the Samba to allow the NT machines to successfully log onto the E-Smith domain I believe they are considered "guests".
To allow your "guest" NT machines to print on the e-smith printer that they can clearly see, edit your /etc/smb.conf file and find your [printers] section. Locate the printer your want to be able to print to from NT and change the "guest ok" from no to yes. I dont recall if I had to restart Samba or not, but I dont think so... but you might! Anyway, it worked for me to allow my Win2000 workstation access. Once you have gotten it proven you then need to create a custom template as described in the manual for that custom setting so that this one-off change is not lost the next time the smb.conf file is regenerated (any ibay change for example).
