SME V.5 Server ?'s for a novice.
« on: October 30, 2001, 06:01:05 AM »
OK here it goes,

Server Stats:
E-Smith SME V5.0 (SMEServer v5.0 Update 2)
Dual 433 Celeron ppga
512megs of Ram
a 17gig HDD I believe 7200 RPM
Netgear FA310TX network Card
Voodoo Banshee Video Card.
Abit BP6 Motherboard.

Client I am trying to get to work with the Server (STATS):
Windows ME (And don't Cap on me for using it. that is just what I have to work with, that I have personally)
P4 1.5ghz
The Ethernet card is installed on the MotherBoard.
The intel Motherboard W/Sound + LAN onboard.
256megs or RAMBUS Memory
30gig 7200 ULTRA ATA 100 HDD
Creative Labs Annihilator 2 Video Card

Programs I use on the PC to connect to the E-Smith Server:
CuteFTP Pro 1.0 (for FTP)
SecureCRT 3.3.2 (for SSH1 connections)
Internet Explorer 6.0 (For web based communication)

I recently installed the E-Smith SME V.5 Server. It installs perfectly no flaws, but the thing I do not understand is that it doesn't do what I want it to.

1st Thing-->
Problem: ok the first thing I can't get to work close or perfect to what I want it to is the FTP server on the system. I can't even log in as the Admin and upload files to the server let alone to the I-Bays with the other accounts.

but it didn't upload the file. that is the problem I am having Please help.

2nd Thing-->
I can't get the client side of Samba to work. Pretty much I get all the errors you would get trying to login into a Windows 2000 Machine from a Windows 9x/ME machine.

Password box:-->
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enter Network Password
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You must supply a password to make this connection

RESOURCE \servername\IPC$
PASSWORD [ ]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Error to inputing correct password:-->
It says that it doesn't recognize the password, and to contact admin(which is me)

it pretty much stops from inputing more than like 12 characters in the password field till it dings saying to stop.

Finished ideas on what I think it should do

1st thing-->
With the FTP one what I am looking to get out of this, is ability to have people upload there stuff to there own I-Bays such as my friends, or store stuff on this system. I am looking to be able to change/upload/download/erase_things.
I need to be able to have users upload and download things.

2nd thing-->
With the Samba part I just want to act like if it was another windows machine so I can do the upload and download, etc while I am at home where I don't need to use VPN which doesn't work anyways on my Cable Internet Company --> AT&T

I just need help could anyone help. I would be greatly appreciated to give all the info you need to figure this out minus usernames and passwords and the domain name or the IPS

The IPS in this whole thing are private and you still wouldn't be able to connect to them.

with the last part about the VPN why I said this was because AT&T @Home doesn't allow VPN over there system.

But I use windows instead of FTP because it is simpler. If I can't get the SAMBA to work I guess I just need the FTP to work..

PLEASE HELP

Doug
