I don't know about XP, but I am currently running NT4, 2000Pro, 98SE, ME without any problems.

Could you possibly be a bit more specific as to how you are trying to connect and what your problems are?

i think i have to upgrade to samba 2.2.2

ill try that. My e-smith is about 8months old. Should probably upgrade to V5 also. What do you think?

you must be doing something wrong during the setup of your xp boxes, I have three machines all with xp running off my e-smith box (4.12) and have no trouble at all. Just set them to auto detect network settings during install and have your e-smith assign the ip's via dhcp

I had a similar problem like Beno after installing XP, but after changing my NIC from a RTL8139 to a SMC etherpower 2 in my XP machine everything worked just fine.
The version of E-smith shouldn't matter I have it running on both versions and XP, I've also set autodetect network setting during installation. when you create a new account do not enter a passwors because after setting a password for my account in XP I couldn't find my user map on the server.

Beno,

You only need to upgrade to Samba 2.2.2 if you wish to setup a domain type network.  If all you are looking for is a peer-to-peer network (i.e. workgroup type), then the version that ships with SME 5.0 works just fine.  In fact, if peer-to-peer is all you are after, upgraded to Samba 2.2.2 won't gain you anything.
