SME V5.0 disappointment

What is the best method of reverting to a previous version of e-Smith?  Since I've installed 5.0, I am experiencing numerous http disconnects, and am getting very upset.  My preference is to revert to a 4.x version of e-smith Linux, and wait for SME to clean up its act.  The problem is making sure the data is not lost.

I'd like to back up the system, then install the old version and restore from the backup.

Is it that simple, or have the configuration/option changes made it more complex?

While doing a downgrade is  possible I doubt that many people have tried to do it.

Personally, I am quite happy with the new features of v5 and have experienced no problems with "http disconnects".

Perhaps if you could detail your problems with http we could try and solve them instead. It may be a simple configuration problem that is easily fixed.

I have been using E-Smith 5.0 for several weeks now (upgraded from Freesco 0.2.7 - which is also an excellent product), without any problems at all.

This forum is preety responsive to people who have problems, so why not detail your problem.....

I spent the time to reinstall 4.1.2 yesterday, and it went reasonably well.  I would be willing to go back to 5.0, but need to address the issues relating to intermittent availability.

I am running a DSL line with a static IP address (209.147.79.120).  The server is operating fine as a 4.1.2 server, and I have no connectivity problems, which would tend to eliminate the issues relating to a configuration issue.  The issue WAS relating to access (expecially webmail), where the connection would cease to remain connected.  Periodically, I'd get a "web server not found" or "page could not be displayed" message, then get it back in 10 or 15 minutes.

The two network cards are on the approved hardware list, with one from 3Com and the other from SMC.  This helps to the better identify both internally and externally.

My URL is http://www.ournetfamily.com.  You can visit the site to check out that I've installed (good, bad, and indifferent). So far today, I've had no connectivity problems.

Okay!  Although they won't admit it, I called my DSL provider and asked if there was anything they were doing that may cause the problems.  The responded in the negative, but everything cleared up within 30 minutes and has stayed away.  I can only guess there was something the DSL provided had configured that was creating connectivity issues.
