Blocking Audiogalaxy and the like

Does anybody know about an advisory on dealing with download maniacs?
In the early Napster days it was quite simple, I've put together some IPCHAINS rules and made them into a CRON job script to be active during business hours and slightly beyond (I'm not a BOFH type :)).
But it seems that I was too generous - now with all those post-napster applications life is a lot harder - sometimes the maniacs slow our net connection down to a crawl...
Any advice?
Anyone know somebody who is keeping track of al those apps and making it available?
Should I consider Transproxy + ....guard?

Thanks for any directions.

A good solution for your problem is to use CBQ capabilities of linux.
Info found in Bandwidth Limiting Howto @  www.linuxdoc.org
You should be able to set speed limits as tightly as you want.
