I need help solving this please...
« on: November 16, 2001, 06:47:46 PM »
I'm getting an error in my flexbackup report.  I did a shutdown and forced "fsck" using the "shutdown -F now" command...yet I'm still getting this report......any ideas?  Other than the messages below (I didn't put the whole log here as it's quite long, but these are all the error messages) the backup completes successfully....I just want to fix this if I can.  Help?

David

If I assumed that /dev/sda5 is your tape drive, then I'd conclude that there was a problem with either the drive or the tape.

The command "shutdown -F now" will force a file system check on the hard drive. This will have no effect upon tape drive errors.

Try using a new tape. Tapes have a limited lifetime and should be replaced regularly. You should replace any tape that has been used more than about 50 times.

Try cleaning your tape heads. Tape drives need regular maintenance. You need to use a cleaning cartridge about once a week.

...you would be assuming incorrectly.  /dev/sda5 is the first (S)CSI (D)isk (a), partition 5.  The tape drive should be something like /dev/st0.
