Server Crashing/losing Configs (Don't know what is going on)
« on: November 17, 2001, 02:51:39 AM »
I just recently installed SME V5.0 on my system,

p3 933mhz
256+megs of ram
15gig 7200 U/ATA 66 HDD (IBM)
Netgear FX310TX
Motherboard = ASUS P3V
52X Generic CDRom
1.44 Floppy

and about 2 days after I installed it all the services just went kaput. PPTP is giving some wierd IP Address, and Apache, or FTP, or SSH is not working at all.

I have not even figured out what it is.

I am running the server as a stand-alone, No DHCP,
w/5 ibays, 5 or 6 users
have the primary redirected to an IBay.
1 of the IBays is running a friends whole site, it has CGI/PHP/SSI (ON) it has a thing called IkonBoard running on it, and his site.
1 of the IBays is running a backup of my website CGI/blah (ON)
1 of the IBays is running another friends site without anything on it. CGI (OFF) for now.
the other 2 are just there 1 is running a photo album. and the other will be mine but have only uploaded and worked with everyone else's stuff.

What can I do about the thing from crashing(well I should say changing confs, shuting down and not restarting, and even when I do restart all the services they still do not work.

PLEASE HELP I am just gonna reinstall again, and backup what I got on there

Perhaps another machine is using the same IP address.

Or there may be a routing problem.

Are you sure that you are using the right IP address or hostname?

yes. it has nothing to do with IP's it has to do with the machine resetting configs and then the thing will not work again unless I reinstall it.

not even if I change confs by hand and restart the services..

NOTHING WORKS.

so I just reinstall it. and it works fine till it crashes again.
