Topic: changing server hardware

I would like to setup server at home get it fully configured to meet my clients needs, and then put that hard drive in the server that they are currently using .  Besides network adaptors will I have problems with this.  I know on NT I can put a fully configured server in another server, I just have to reinstall the specific hardware drivers, such as lan cards and video.

  I know this reaks of newbie.  any help would be appreciated.  I also want to do this because they are currently working on a NT solution and would like as little down time as possible when I install the e-smith box.

Hi,

  I'm not sure but I don't think you will find troble beseides having to "reinstall" the network drivers in "admin", unless you are talking about different processor types or multiprocessor.

Check that the hardware in the new server is supported by e-smith/Linux Red Hat

I just did this.  It worked swimmingly.  Not a hitch on the e-Smith side.  Microsoft migratin still left a bit to be desired, (my client needed a 2000 server as well as the e-Smith server).

If you need any pointers let me know....far from an expert, but have traveled the road recently.
