Hi,

i have questions on primary i-bay

i am using Windows 2000, i try go to MY Network Place and view entire network, i found the E-Smith and i double click it, i saw the there is one folder called Primary.

I understand that this primary folders contains our main website html files.we have cretaed 3 others i-bays which we help other company to host theit webiste too.

i try to create one folder inside the primry folder.but i get the error message:

unable to cretae the folder "New folder"
Access is denied.

but when i go to the another i-bays, i try to create a folder there, i didnt get any error messages.

May I know why i am able to create or put any html files into other i-bays but not i cant create or put any html files into primary i-bays.

Actually what i want to do is i want add some html files into the primary i-bays.

Besides that, May I know is there any way to let the user try to update the html fiels into the primary i-bays so that the new html files ?

We need to update the news every month into the webiste

can any1 teach me how to do it in proper way ?

Hi,

I know there is an issue with Win2k and Samba, but by default, logged in as admin, you should be able to create folders accordingly Primary->html->newfolder. However, I don't think you would ever want to create a folder directly under the Primary folder, instead use Primary->html->newfolder. You may have to change permissions on your new folders as some PHP scripts will not run properly if not set accordingly.

Hoay,

I had the same problem when I first started using e-smith/SME.  As pointed out in the previous message, you can log in as admin and add files and folders to the primary ibay directory tree.  I found this too restrictive for my setup.

Personally, I don't consider webpage design to be network administration.  In fact, I don't want to give the web guy in my office the admin password to our server.  To get around this, I manually changed the Unix permissions for the primary ibay to match those of any other ibay.  Specifically, I did the following:

chmod g+x /home/e-smith/files/primary/*
chmod g+s /home/e-smith/files/primary/*
chmod u+x /home/e-smith/files/primary/*

Why not use a regular ibay and set up a virtual domain for it?

please forgive me if i didnt get whatt you mean correctly:

May I know what you mean by :

you can log in as admin and add files and folders to the primary ibay directory tree.

is it mean that i login to E-Smith server or my Win2K PC as admin ?
