fetchmail: couldn't find canonical DNS name of mail.mydomain
« on: December 05, 2001, 09:43:53 PM »
Hi,

I have recently set up a v5 Server with a local primary domain name mydomain.co.uk (example).

We have a website hosted by an ISP using the same domain name, which up until recently didn't cause any problems.

Over the last 2 weeks we have had to upgrade Samba to 2.2.2 to provide Domain controller security to Windows 2000 and XP clients. This went in without any apparent problems but seems to have stopped e-mail working. I keep getting the following message

'fetchmail: couldn't find canonical DNS name of mail.mydomain.co.uk'

I have examined the Samba config files in the Custom-templates directory and tried enabling the DNS lookup but this has not helped.

E-mail used to work fine before I upgraded Samba so I am certain that it is something to with the upgrade. The following files were used to perform the upgrade.

dmc-mitel-samba-2.2.2-0.noarch.rpm
samba-2.2.2-1es.i386.rpm
samba-client-2.2.2-1es.i386.rpm
samba-common-2.2.2-1es.i386.rpm

Please explain to me how to sort this as I am still very new to Linux.

Many thanks in advance

James

No it doesn't work. My ISP recently had a new Firewall installed which they say stops ping requests going through. This was installed at almost exactly the same time as I upgraded Samba to 2.2.2 .

I can get my mail from the isp using the POP3 feature in Hotmail and Outlook, providing it is not through the E-smith server.

Do you think it might be something to do with the new firewall my ISP has had installed?
