Has anyone been able to get ntop (http://www.ntop.org) to run corectly on an e-smith server. I have gotten it installed but is is not seeing any traffic. A VERY sweet network monitoring program.

Just installed it on E-SMith 5.0 with update 3.

All I did was....

wget www.au.ntop.org/security/network-monitoring/ntop/package/ntop-1.1-1.rh6.i386.rpmw

rpm -iv ntop*

I then typed ntop and away it went.

Very very nice app.

I have tried previously on an e-smith 4.1.2 box and it wouldn't install. Tried the above just then and get the following message:
error: failed dependencies:
        libncurses.so.4 is needed by ntop-1.1-1

Last tiem I tried to install a newer libncurses ( it was a while ago though ) and didn't succeed and decided not to stuff a working server up so I dropped the idea until I do an upgrade to a newer version of e-smith.

I will look at the above, but ntop has come VERY far since 1.1. If you look, that was a RH 6.0 package, some time ago indeed. Ntop versions are actually up to 2.X now. Anybody will to try and complie it on an e-smith machine?

Hi,

I made a symbolic link like:

ln -s /usr/lib/libncurses.so.5 /usr/lib/libncurses.so.4

Installed NTOP by: rpm --nodeps iv ntop*

Looks like it is working......

Hello garret,

the version v1.1.xx of ntop works well on e-smith but the later versions of 2.xx or even later still run but dont capture any packets!! so i guess i am having the same problems too. As far as the libs are concerned i found all of them on http://rpmfind.net  without a problem if you are having difficulty still in making it just to run (dosent have much sense though as you cannot get it to capture still) please let me know the failed rpm dependencies.

Oh, I got it to run also, wasn't a problem there . . . the problem was that is wasn't and still isn't capturing any packets. Anybody any idea why the new ntop isn't capturing any packets?
