Ntop revisited

Has anyone managed to get ntop working and capturing packets on the e-smith? I am running e-smith v5 with update 3 applied and have installed ntop and it appears to be running correctly but it is not reporting any packet capture even though the adaptor (eth0) is switching to promiscuous mode at ntop startup.
I note that the ntop-1.3.2-5 FAQ file states that “options PACKETFILTER” is in your kernel configuration file. Is this feature enabled in the e-smith kernel and if not how can it be enabled?
Also can NTOP version 2 be compiled on the e-smith? And does compiler software need to be installed to compile an application on e-smith? Is an RPM available for version 2?
NTOP appears a very nice network and security monitoring tool and I would like to get it running on my server, any advice appreciated.

Hi Steve,,
I run E-smith 5 with update 3 and it runs fine, the only problem i have is getting it to log to a file.
I got all the info required just from searching through google.com for ntop
