I have installed procmail via darrel Mays rpms and howto.  Has anyone managed to install junkfilter (http://junkfilter.zer0.org) along side it to filter spam (and boy do I get alot)?

Yes, works like a charm.

Darrell May is working on a wonderful add-on to SME 5.0 that makes implementation of junkfilter a breeze.  Have a look at

I installed Sanitizer (http://mailtools.anomy.net) on my sme box. It's a good program (easy to install), in association with procmail and an anti-virus (support 5 anti-virus and more, if an anti-virus can return a code, sanitizer work).

The Anomy sanitizer is what most people would call "an email virus scanner". That description is not totally accurate, but it does cover one of the more important jobs that the sanitizer can do for you - it can scan email attachments for viruses. Other things it can do:

* Disable potentially dangerous HTML code, such as javascript, within incoming email.
* Protect you from email-based break-in attempts which exploit bugs in common email programs (Outlook, Eudora, Pine, ...).
* Block or "mangle" attachments based on their file names. This way if you don't need to recieve e.g. visual basic scripts, then you don't have to worry about the security risk they imply (the ILOVEYOU virus was a visual basic program). This lets you protect yourself and your users from whole classes of attacks, without relying on complex, resource intensive and outdated virus scanning solutions.

You guys have done a wonderful job with the new userpanel/procmail stuff.  I'm happy to report I've been running Darrell's original junkmail implementation for some time now and couldn't be more pleased with it.  I would estimate that the filter gets rid of about 90% of the spam that comes my way.  As long as you utilize the whitelist function within junkmail, it's pretty rare to get a non-junkmail email sent to the junkmail area.

we have already released the free parts, sorry
months of work have gone into the opensource version

it's the same deal as mitel, they offer an enhanced version that
keeps the business going or there wouldn't be any development
and we would all have to go back to using redhat

we use the same techniques as mitel, so see e-smith.org/custom
for the method required to add your spam filter of choice.
