Yes, that forces the module to be loaded even though it's a different kernel version.
But loading the drivers with /skymedia/skymedia start, should not display wrong kernel version, only running /skymedia/sm200dload.sh will do this.
To check if the module loaded ok do a 'lsmod' and find the line with sm200d_lnx and check that there is a 1 under the column 'Used'
If this is ok then check for a lock by doing a /skymedia/sm200dstats.

OK!!  Success at last!

I installed version 4.1.2 of e-smith, did what you said using your drivers, Alan and it worked.

Now, how do I get it to start automatically when I start e-smith?

Ok another problem.

sm200dstats shows that I am locked onto satellite.

Problem is that the internet connection doesn't seem to be using the satellite for download.

Alan mentioned something about "making your e-smith server a dedicated connection.
Well, I thought I did that but it didn't work.  Had no connection at all.

any suggestions?

Thanks

John

OK, to get the satellite card drivers to load each time on boot add the following line to the end of '/etc/rc.local'
/skymedia/skymedia start

If you are downloading via the modem and NOT the satellite card then you will need to contact your ISP to make sure they have the routing in place.

I choose a dedicated server only cause thats the plan i am on with my isp.

Hello Kevin

Did you get e-smith to work with Ihug Ultra?

If so, could you tell me how please?

Thanks

Hi John,

Unfortunately, the client who is using the SatNet card can't spare the system to try - so I have not got the chance to do so.

Finally, success!  If I had read Alan's e-mail of 13.1.02 22:40, I would have been here months ago!
Did you write this and make it so easy, Alan?

Well done and thankyou E-smith and Alan.

PS.  Perhaps it would be good to post Alan's files and instructions on the site somewhere obvious.

Drivers for these cards can be found on the telemann site: www.telemann.com
Instuctions are included.

The only problem that I seem to be suffering is that the connection will eventually degrade till it drops off. I'm not sure what this is, but I have it routing outgoing data via ISDN care of a few cisco routers and a tunnel, but of a routing nightmere trying to keep the assigned IP address intact... I will post any findings that may affect others, something tells me that forcing the 2.2.14 module isn't a good thing.

I found that creating a custom init script and linking to it in rc7.d is the better solution than using rc.local.

We have an offer open to any developer or user - we will host your (free and open source software) and documentation. Just send along to documentation@e-smith.com or support@e-smith.com and we will set it up on e-smith.org.

I have used Alans method on 7 SAT installs here in Australia connecting to iHug.
I have noticed no degredation of speed with either dialup modem or using DOV on ISDN.

If Alan is ok with it I don't mind writing up a small step by step guide and emailing the drivers and the document to E-Smith as suggested by Charlie.
