does a isdn-modem work with e-smith ?
« on: February 04, 2001, 09:26:18 PM »
i have a isdn modem, which need init strings like atz and so to work, i tried everythink i know to get it working but nothing helps, with other linux dists like suse or peanut it worked.

can someone say which scripts i have to modify to get it working ?

p.s. the only thing i had to set in peanut are:
init0: atz
init1: at&B54\P1
phone command: atd
this was enough to get it working ...

Yes it works; after 6 days of try and fail and re-read the modem manual 10 times ( i am not joking ).
The best you can do : setup a second pc as a serial line sniffer; learn how to use it; snif a Windows com that work, snif e-smith and modify chat-ppp0 accordingly.
usually 2 ort 3 lines of AT... commands are sufficient.
The big difficult thing : know what ISDN protocol your ISP uses, most of them do not know themselves.

PS : we used one of the worst modem we have ever seen ASUS ST200 ISDN TA.
Hint : DO NOT BUY IT, tell that to your friends.
With a US robotics it worked after 3 minutes. Bad luck, it was not ours.

Good luck.

the easy way is just to configure your modem-profile0 (which is always loaded after an "ATZ") to use &B54\P1, I did the same with my ELSA ISDN TLpro.
The e-smith always initializes the modem with "ATZ".  This way you don't
need to edit any script. If you want to, you have to use AT&B54\P1
!!!!   Double Backslash !!!!! because a single one will be interpreted as a
CarriageReturn.
