In the nearby future I need to install E-Smith on a dell server probably having a diag-partition, is there someone who can write a sort of Howto.

Stick the CD in the drive and boot the machine. Don't worry about diagnostic partitions, the machine will still put up the two Function key assignments at the top of the screen, even after you have set up e-smith.

I use UltraEdit for Nix files. It asks if you want to convert into DOS-format when you open a file from UNIX. Works great.
