how do create a fake internal domain that will resolve in lo
« on: January 28, 2002, 05:28:29 AM »
I'm running SME 5.1b4 as my primary gateway to my network, with several domains on it.  I'd like to set up a development SME server on my network that has a fake domain, so that I can test email functionality to (and from) that server.

How to I configure the primary SME dns records so that it will resolve the fake domain to the ip address of the develepment server?

I'm a little confused at how the DNS is managed on this SME box, so was hoping someone had come up with a solution before I start spending hours deconstructing the DNS structure so I can add my own entries...

Thanks!

Hi John

Resonably simple solution...setup your E-Smith server to forward DNS queries to the server that your wanting to test on.

It will resolve any domain name as long as the domain records are correct it should work.

I have done this myself to test other aspects of the E-Smith server.

If you want more instructions email me.
