Any serial guru's out there

I keep getting the following error message "kernel: ttyS1: 1 input overrun(s)" and every time it happens it seems to lockup the FaxGetty process and I'm unable to send or recieve faxes. From the searching I've done it seems that the serial port isn't getting enough priority from the processor. I found a program called irqtune that changes the irq of the serial port to IRQ0 giving the port maximum priority. Am I heading in the right direction? Could there be a simpler solution using maybe setserial? For the record I have a UPS hanging off com1 and Hylafax on com2. AMD1200/256/2x20GB on SME5.0 and I've recently installed an lt winmodem using the following driver "ltmodem-kv_2.2.19_7.0.8-6.00a1-1.i386.rpm". Anyone have any ideas.

David

If the Hylafax is using the LT Winmodem driver, then I would suggest that you replace the internal modem with an external version of the modem.  Winmodems by nature do not work well in Linux ( lack of good support).  Even when they work in Windows they can be serious CPU hogs.  A hardware modem will always perform better than a software modem.  My guess is a poor driver or resource conflict ( irq / io base).
