qmail questions

Ok, a windows-numbed Linux newbie here.  Downloaded e-smith and installed it.
VERY nice installation, BTW.  I killed very few brain cells out in the process.  I
like that.

In my quest for finding out how to set up multiple domains for e-mail, I wandered
into the qmail site and found myself asking more questions than getting answers;
specifically,

1.  What version, exactly do I have of qmail (1.03 is avail)
2.  Do I have to patch "dns.c" for DNS records >512 bytes (ala AOL)
3.  Is 'inetd' being used instead of the recommended 'tcpserver'
4.  etc., etc., etc.

Thanks in advance,
-Cliff

Thanks! We're pleased to hear that you like the product so far.

You have version 1.03.

Yes. The currently shipping version of e-smith does not include the patch.

Yes, inetd is used. In the long run, tcpserver has advantages and we may switch to it, but in the meantime our inetd-based setup has worked very well for our current customers.

Hope you enjoy the software! Best regards,

E-smith out of the box does not provide email virtual domains. If you choose to add it yourself, you will need to consult both
the qmail documentation (the FAQ is good, and there is great stuff on the web) and the e-smith configuration system - see http://www.e-smith.org/  for that.

to add further to the wish list ( 2c worth ) clink !
have you looked at qmail-admin / inter7 control screens
this would be very useful for some of our customers
( multiple email box collection , aliases )

If this is off topic oops

Finally a Non sendmail Package

It's not off topic, but it'd help if you told us what you mean by "inter7". There is a contrib rpm on the e-smith.net site
which is an admin interface for adding system wide email aliases.

If you want more than that, you'll have to write it yourself, or ask and wait and hope. If you come up with something yourself, please send the code back in.

Best wishes

Ok the site in Question is http://www.inter7.com/qmailadmin
they also deal with virtual domains.
