Using the server as a file server. We had to do an upgrade with the program (on the workstations), and used on of the workstations to upgrade the data format on the server. Here is the problem.

Everybody is trying to go in and make changes to their old files, but are unable to because the owner of all files has changed to the workstation I did the update on. All of this was writable by all before the conversion, now only this particular account. I have chaecked permissions and they are RWXRWXRWX, I have set them there in an attemp to figure this out. Any help please, I must get the other users able to make changes and save these older files.

Hello,

I'm news in Linux but i've read about the "chown" command.

Maybe by using "chown admin.shared *" in the directory you want to changer permissions will help.

thank, I'll give it a try. Originally admin was the owner, and then it changed when we did the data conversion.

Didn't work. It changed the permissions but they still can't write.

Any other ideas?
