Setting up email

Hey,

Does anyone know how to configure e-smith 4.1.2 as an email server?  It claims to be, but it is not working.  I have a domain set up on my e-smith.  I used http://www.pronym.com to set up my DNS and point to the IP address on my e-smith.  My website running off e-smith is: http://www.dragasoni.com

I have a subdomain set up for email which is mail.dragasoni.com but it can only send email for home.  In order for me to receive my email on dragasoni@dragasoni.com I have to redirect it to an alternate account such as elord79@tampabay.rr.com.  How can I set up e-smith to receive my email off the internet as well as sending?

Also, when I try to connect to my e-smith server from work using outlook express, I can receive emails but not send.  So when I am not home, I have the opposite problem.  For some reason, my user name that allows me to receive email at work doesn't work at home. My username on my e-smith is "dragasoni" and my user name on pronym is "dragasoni@dragasoni.com"  From home e-smith doesn't seem to like "dragasoni@dragasoni.com" in outlook express.  It works when I use "dragasoni" but it can only send email.  When I go to work, and set up outlook, it doesn't work with a username of "dragasoni" but it does with a user name of "dragasoni@dragasoni.com"

I should mention that my e-smith is acting as a router on my cable modem, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

If anyone has ANY ideas please reply to this!  I'll do anything in return I can to thank you :)

Regards,

Eric

Is your domain a true Delegated domain or is it one you made up for your network. If it is delegated then your box should work as a true mail server without much configuring at all. If you made it up then your mail will only work internally as the domain name servers on the internet will not have a valid entry for your server. I have a delegated domain and my isp forwards requests directly to my box.

I had a similar problem adding a second email server at our school.  It is indeed a domain naming problem.

If you are running a singel E-Smith server for both email and web pages, the domain name in the E-Smith setup needs to be dragasoni.com.

I had to change the domain name a few times in order to get my additional server running as it should but all works now.

BTW:  I am using version 5.  The setup in V5 could not be much easier.
