I have previously installed V5.0 onto a server with a Mylex DAC960 Raid controller.  It took much work and a custom built initrd to get it to boot from the Mylex controller, but I was wondering, now that I would like to upgrade to 5.1, if I couldn't solve the problem by using the ks.cfg file.  The Mylex module was already compiled by default in  V 5.0 but due to a problem with the system loading the onboard Symbios logic SCSI chipset first the Mylex controller would never load.  Therefore, I made a custom initrd that contained only the DAC960 module and loaded it onto a loadlin boot disk so that I could get the system booted off of the raid controller.  Well, enough history, my question is, does anyone have any experience with the ks.cfg file and, is there a place where I can get more information on how it works.

Thanks
Julian

Hi Julian,

I'm in the process of installing 5.1.2 to a new RAID server.  This server has an Intel STL2 mainboard with built in Adaptec SCSI and a Mylex 352 RAID controller.

During the initial part of the installation, it loads the AIC7XXX (Adaptec) driver, then it loads the DAC960 driver and proceeds with the install by creating filesystems and copying files.  This might seem to relieve you from manipulating _anything_.

But I, too, have a serious problem.

At the very end of the file copy, the installer says "Performing Post Install..."  and then blows up stating "Install exiting abnormally - received signal 11".  The display gets wierd and gives a few barely readable shutdown messages that pertain to unmounting filesystems and finally states "you may safely reboot the system".

Anyone have any ideas?  Research of past messages indicates this controller is supported, which is why I bought it.

TIA,

Gene

I have used this technique twice now with success. Once on an Intel mainboard and once on a Dell 1300 server with the Dell single channel RAID controller.

I temporarily disabled the built-in SCSI controller, installed SME, then reenabled the on-board SCSI controller.  I then had to add a line to insmod the aic7xxx driver.
