Hi, I have just posted some probs that I have had with ISDN. In trying to work round the problem I have hit an e-mail snag.
As a temporay measure, I have set the esmith 5.0 box as server only with a Freesco box doing the dialup routing. All works well - general browsing and e-mail reception via a POP mailbox.
However, the mail server cannot seem to send mail. I have it pointing to the mail providers mail server, but I get a smtp_not_connecting (or similar) message in the logs.
I presume it's something to do with the freesco box, have no idea what. Or is this effectively relaying which I understand is blocked ? I have another machine with a near identical setup which sends mail on to the ISPs mailhost, and that works fine. However the domain names are different for the local network and the ISPs.
Our ISPs mailserver is called mailhost.mylocalnetwork.xx and the server is esmith.mylocalnetwok.xx so I have added the mailhost into the hostnames and given it a global IP as it is not on the local network in reality.
I have tried to subsitute the domain name with an IP but the result is the same.
Would it be better to remove this and just let the server send mail direct ?
Any thoughts appreciated.
