only 16 MB RAM not 256
« on: March 19, 2002, 03:06:58 PM »
Hi,

I have a Compaq proliant 2500 server. With win NT 4.0 it has 256 of RAM. With E-Smith 5.1 it only has 16 MB of RAM.
It's a dual PPr0 200 with a smart array RAID 5 controler.

Everything else works fine. It's a clean install.

Does anyone have a solution. I'm experiencing verry poor server preformance. I-bay acces is fine but everything else is verry slow.

With regards

Thijs

I don't seem to quite understand your question, but as far as what i gather that you have a nt server with 256mb of ram and then you have another server with dual cpu's with just 16mb of ran running e-smith?

you should get more ram for the dual cpu machine if not remove one cpu install some decent amount of ram then you might see some performance.

have you tried taking out the 256mb of ram from your nt server and installing it on the e-smith server to see if you get a performance gain?

My understanding is that Thijs has a dual cpu system with 256 MB RAM installed that used to run Windows NT and used/recognized/reported all this RAM. Now the same system running SME only reports 16 MB. This seems like a typical case where an append line should be added to the lilo conf. Perhaps the problem could also be solved by updating BIOS ROM. This is discussed in the thread I quoted above. But I'm sure Thijs will report back to tell us what the problem/solution was.

Add the following line to your /etc/lilo.conf just before the read-only line (adjust for your amount of memory), and re-run LILO to make this change take effect: append="mem=256M" or append="mem=262144k"

Hi,
I'm using an compaq proliant 2500. It's running W2K now. Becaurse SME 5.12 gave poor preformance one I had to use the processer in some way. Disk acces was verry good.

Until I get my new desktop I'll be using W2K after that I'm going to try SME 5.xx with the extra line in my lolo file.

Many thanks for the quick reaction.
