UPS agent over ethernet

I know Darrell May has a howto for using a serial connection to run an APC UPS agent for power loss shutdown, etc.

Has anyone gotten the ethernet version of the free APC client running on SME5.x yet?

Jeff,

I got the apc powerchute daemon and xpowerchute to work on a single machine, although I am not sure how it would work on a network.

The only problem I had was figuring out how to run the X program remotely. Basically I installed enough of X to run a remote X term therough Winaxe from which I could run xpowerchute. The rest was fairly easy

Have a search through the forums for APC or UPS or similar and see the stuff I put up there about it. If you want any help, let me know and I'll do my best.

I have not tried APC's powerchute software, but I have the apcupsd software working on several machines.  One (an SME Server) acts as a master with a serial connection to the UPS.  I also have a RedHat Linux box set up as a slave that communicates over ethernet, and a NT 4.0 box with slave over ethernet.  The two slaves receive their signal over ethernet from the master and will shutdown in the event of a powerloss.

Configuration was fairly straightforward after reading the documentation.

Of course, you must remember to plug you ethernet hub/switch into the UPS also, or the slaves will never receive the signal when the power goes out.

The binaries and source for the various OS's can be found at http://www.apcupsd.com/index.html

Untrue.
All slaves talk to the master, that's the pc connected to the ups with serial cable.
