Topic: Managing print queues

This seems such an obvious question, but until recently, I hadn't had to consider it. Is there any way to manage a print queue from the client side? I know of, and have used, lpq and lprm to manage and clear the queue on the server side.

A client of mine has started to have problems with an HP DeskJet 1220, where selection of 11x17 paper is causing a hang. However, the job either does not display (having already spooled) or won't cancel from the PC's Print Manager.

How do others manage this? Do you have clients access the command prompt?

Hello Des,

I think you can use de standard unix commands off de printing system.

Login as root

run lpstat (enter)

You get a row back with a que-printnumber

run

cancel (enter)

And your job is gone

A few ather commands are

- disable
- enable

I'm aware of the command line options for managing queues, but I'm looking for options from the client side - I'd rather minimize the need for users to access the command prompt.

On that point you have right, but the (l)unix is not zo flexibel as it is. Mayby you can search for een lpd manager are client.

On the ather hand you can gife user rights that they only can delete there own print jobs. Where this safty parameter is in the e-smith product i don't no.
