Backing up and restoring
« on: April 19, 2002, 09:36:23 PM »
Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago in our company we switched to e-smith 5.12 instead of Novell, everything works fine.
So today I finally I've finally shut down the novell server, and i've installed e-smith on it for testing etc.
After running flexbackup on a timed moment, i tried to restore the backup on a freshly installed server (just in cause for practice), but this didn't work nthing was restored.
I've checked the logfiles but this said that the dump was completed, and the restore panel gave a message '''please reboot''.
I've checked on the command prompt with the command flexbackup -toc for a index, but the output was no index file found.

Can anyone help me, or should I use taper instead and can this work in 5.12 also.
Do I need to initiliaze new tapes or something of this nature ?

Best regards,

Paul van Dun

Normally, the server will return a message saying "please reboot" because during the restoration, all of the custom templating and cnfigurations would have been restored.

After the reboot, the server should come up normally with the restoration successfully completed.

No worries... yet.

The E-smith manual says restore on a freshly nstalled server, but what do they mean ?
Do I have to create the normal users, and i-bays etc or are all the files restored from tape ?.
Just for the record I'm using a HP Surestore DAT 24i SCSI and at work a Dell Python Archive (a 40Gb DAT drive) all these drives are on the supported drive list so that shouldn't be the problem.
Is there someone with the same problem because it's giving me sleepless nights.

Best regards,
