Multi-drop, user-fetchmail, and loops
« on: April 26, 2002, 01:28:16 AM »
I have the e-smith-fetchmail package working flawlessly at two sites to pull mail from multiple POPs and distribute it to local users.  The only reason I want to do this is to be able to run the vacation package, and so that remote users can have the possibility of using webmail (and these features are not offered at the real mail host).

I'm having mucho problems getting things to work at one particular site using 5.1.2 --  Any mail sent comes back from the Mailer daemon as:

--
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

:
This message is looping: it already has my Delivered-To line. (#5.4.6)
--

I can' for the life of me figure out what I'm doing different at this site.  The only difference is that I'm using a dial-up connection.

Any hints?

You are using a email address wich seems not to be accepted by your server domain or your ISP.  If you want to sent mail from a client via e-smith server your domain needs to be valid. I.e. is you want to sent mail via mymail@mydomain.com than you must have mydomain.com on the server. You can alternatively create a virtual domain for this.
Secondly the mail sent by sendmail to your dialup-connection must be accepted by your ISP. In other words: you need to use a mail address wich is valid for your ISP.

I'm still struggling to understand the problem...

The SME server uses a dyndns.org address:  s-elecsar.dyndns.org .

I'm trying to get the SME server to pick up mail from POP mailboxes at a domain called elecsar.com, and then I get the loop error.

I'm doing the same thing at another site where SME is called t-elecsar.dyndns.org and it is working like a champion!
