Slow SMTP 5.1.2
« on: May 14, 2002, 01:14:13 AM »
I have a sme 5.1.2 server setup as an email server.
I have a custom client application which emails files to the mail server via SMTP.
When I used 4.x the client app sent the emails quickly.
I upgraded to 5.1.2 (I did a backup to desktop, installed 5.1.2 on a fresh machine, and restored from desktop).

Since then, the client program waits approximately 30 seconds at the start of each smtp send. Nothing changed at all on the client machine.  The 30 seconds adds up when you are sending 200 emails (files).

When I ran a version of the client application over the local network, there was no delay.  Only when the SMTP comes in via the internet.  The actual send speed once it starts is reasonable for uploading over DSL.

Is there some sort of delay built in the SMTP configuration of 5.1.2?  The only thing I can think of is a 'tarpit' type setup to discourage spam.

Thanks
Seth
