External web page caching?

We have several customers using SME servers with no problems. However recently we wiped and did a fresh install of 5.1.2. at a customer's site, and accidentally told the SME server it was in charge of the domain name example.com when in fact example.com was being hosted elsewhere. We then changed the SME server to think it was hosting examplefake.com. I am not sure all that is related, but it seems likely. Here is the problem:

When anyone who works at the location being served by the SME server running examplefake.com tries to access outside web pages everything works, EXCEPT if they access any page at www.example.com then they get old copies. They get old copies means that if they go and edit the actual pages at www.example.com, then from outside they see their changes immediately, but from browsing through examplefake.com they do not see the pages change for anywhere between 1 and 10 days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried having them clear their cache and try many different web browsers on their local machines and it does not seem to matter, that is why I suspect its the SME server somehow.

Yes it's the server, not the workstations.  I had the same problem when I updated my website (hosted on external server).  I kept looking at the old site on my computer no matter what I tried.  This was just after upgrading the SME from 4.1.2 to 5.1.2, which has transparant proxy turned on by default.  So I killed the proxy and the problem was gone.

If you like the proxy you could probably just adjust some settings somewhere on the server, but killing it will also solve your problem.

Thanks I am giving it a try... for anyone else reading this:
To disable transparent proxying of all HTTP request from your LAN, run:

/sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop squid Transparent no
   /sbin/e-smith/signal-event remoteaccess-update
